Brief Report on Business Development in Fiscal Years 2011/2012

(PresseBox) (Nuernberg, ) Strong growth in commercial business fields

In fiscal year 2011, the Diehl Group achieved sales of €2,929.3 million, hence €204.2 million or 7.5% more than in the year before. Strong growth of 30% was achieved by the Aerosystems Corporate Division; Metall (+15%) and Metering (+11%) also saw double-digit growth rates. Defence sales decreased as expected. The number of employees increased by 405 individuals to 13,974.

In 2011, the net operating income was essentially level with the previous year's figure (€ 139,6 million over € 144,9 million in 2010) despite high advance expenditures for the development of the A350 Airbus.

Acquisitions at Aerosystems and Metall strengthen market position

With the takeover of the Hamburg-based galley manufacturer Mühlenberg as well as DASELL Cabin Interior (sanitary equipment in the aircraft cabin) already acquired in 2010, the acquisition phase for Diehl Aerosystems has now been completed for the time being. The two companies engaged in the field of aircraft cabin systems were integrated into the corporate division as Diehl Service Modules GmbH and Diehl Comfort Modules GmbH. Diehl Metall took over Zehdenick Innovative Metall- und Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Zehdenick, and recently Schempp & Decker. The company is among the European market leaders in the fields of precision stampings as well as surface and plastics technology and delivers its products mostly to customers in the automotive and electronics industries.

Broad diversification ensures stability

In the current fiscal year, growth at Metering, Controls and Aerosystems compensates for the decrease in defence and reduced Metall sales due to the sale of French subsidiary Griset.
