Connecting senses - the creation of sensory networking

2nd International Smart Plastics Congress / June 10-11, 2013 in Linz, Austria

(PresseBox) (Linz, ) The Smart Plastics initiative consists of 14 companies cooperating on the interface between plastics technology, electronics and design. The initiative is set to move into the spotlight with the organization on June 10-11, 2013 of the 2nd Smart Plastics Congress, which will be held in Linz, Austria under the motto: "Connecting senses - the creation of sensory networking."

According to Professor Georg Steinbichler from the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz, who is also the head of technological R&D at Engel Austria GmbH and as the programme chairperson, mainly responsible for the congress: "Smart Plastics combine the three key components of electronics, plastics technology and form to create one of the most significant design media for the coming years."

Smart Plastics extend our senses

Machines, devices and plastic components will increasingly interact with us through physical interfaces and sensors serving as intelligent assistants that mediate between we humans and the environment. For some time, we have been linked with one another via the web and Smart Plastics mean that we will be increasingly involved with the things that surround us. Almost casually they will register our real activities and provide us with value added from the data generated. This will create a fundamental change in the quality of our perception, as we can thus amplify our senses by leaps and bounds to a previously unknown extent.

You can learn more about developments in this technological threshold area in Linz. National and international experts such as Prof. Dr. Jukka Hast from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Bauer from the JKU, Dr. Barbara Stadlober from Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH in Graz and Norman Starke from Proof Technologies in Cologne are just some of the leading speakers on the programme.
