In this project the traction specialist Vossloh Kiepe was responsible for the innovative electric technology of the modern, 12 m long standard buses of the type "Urbino 12 electric" from Solaris Bus & Coach. The Düsseldorf company supplied the traction equipment with a central asynchronous motor and the on-board power supply system for the environment-friendly Urbinos. At present, the electric vehicles are charged overnight in the depot of the Rheinbahn AG in Düsseldorf-Benrath by way of a plug connection. The lithium ion batteries have a capacity of 210 kWh at 660 V.
Solaris Bus & Coach and Vossloh Kiepe have now realised many successful battery bus projects together and are very happy that just Düsseldorf - headquarters of Vossloh Kiepe - is the first city in North Rhine-Westphalia that has decided to operate the electric buses of the partners and to test the performance of this state-of-the-art technology.
