CeBIT 2015: Brasil luring with world class opportunities for R&D

Seminar “Innovate in Brazil”, Monday, 16th March 2015 at CeBIT International Business Area will present a ”must-be place” for software development and ICT-related research

CeBIT's former partner country, Brazil, is making use of the global ICT platform in Hannover/Germany to communicate with the European and German corporate ICT sector. Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Agency and the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade are inviting to seminar "Innovate in Brazil" on CeBIT's opening day, Monday, 16th March 2015. The seminar will CeBIT International Business Area in Hall 6.

The target of the event is to provide enterprises and organisations from Europe with first-hand information on Brazil's advantages in R&D activities in the software development and ICT-related research. "Brazil offers many opportunities for R&D investments: qualified workforce, top-notch infrastructure, a huge domestic market and a set of pro-innovation legislation."- says Maria Luísa Cravo, Investments of Apex-Brasil.

Brazil as a partner country received public attention when it showcased its national IT strategy and fast growing ICT sector at CeBIT 2012. President Dilma Rousseff headed a huge Brazilian delegation and opened the world's largest ICT show together with Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

-Brasil wants to foster international cooperation in the field of R&D. The organisation is ready and willing to intensify dialogue with the corporate sector of Europe, represented by around 2000 exhibitors of CeBIT. Maria Luisa Cravo: "Apex-Brasil can assist on bringing its R&D center/projects to Brazil."

There are plenty of arguments for selecting Brazil as a location for future orientated ICT projects or even as a corporate hub for global R&D activities. "Brazil has an impressive market but the world must know our innovation potential. The Brazilian Government developed an aggressive strategy to place the country as a competitive player in R&D investment attraction. We invite you to innovate in Brazil,"- states Marcos Vinícius de Souza, Secretary of Innovation - Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.

The country with over 202 million inhabitants has gained a strong position in the global ICT sector. It is the 4th global market for automobiles and cell phones, the 3rd in the number of Facebook users and the 5th in the number of Twitter users. In addition, it is also representing the 5th global market for medical equipment and the 6th for pharmaceutical products.

One of the strongest factors for future growth investing corporate sector Brazil's unique human resources. Brasil massively and systematically has invested in and in 's scientific potential. The country counts 2,391 higher education institutions (INEP). Brazilian scientific production measured by the number of academic works published in specialized journals increased by 556% from 2002 to 2012. The number of people holding master's and doctoral degrees quadrupled in the past 15 years.

The systematic economic development of the last decade is the base for Brazil's successful positioning as a world hub for technology. In figures: the number of technology parks increased from 10 in 2000 to 94 in 2012. Currently, Brazil has 384 incubators that have produced 2,509 projects. These incubators host 2,640 companies with total sales value of US$ 1,54 billion.

Brasil created a framework of pro-Innovation legislation and financing institutions like the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and the Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP). As a result than 20 multinational companies have established R&D centers in Brazil in the past four years (2012-2015): Microsoft, Qualcomm, EMC, Huawei, Cisco, Intel, SAP, Lenovo, FMC Technologies, Siemens, Ericsson, Basf, EADS, IMPSA, Huawei, Boeing, Halliburton, Elanco, 3M, Vallourec, Tenaris, General Electric, Honda, Siemens, Alstom BG Group.
