Newest case packer/lidder for Japanese market
Multiple case designs on one line
|
| The highly configurable Model 163 case packer/lidder packs its greater end-product quality into a small space, to replace less capable machines in any facility. |
(PresseBox) Sheboygan, USA, 02.10.2009,
Pemco Inc., a company of the Körber PaperLink Group (KPL), has announced the addition of one-piece wrap-around capability to its latest case packer/lidder machines. This feature of Pemco's new Model 163 allows Japanese paper converting companies to produce for both their domestic and export markets on one converting line. It also lets producers in other countries pack cut-size reams for the Japanese market, without requiring modification of their packer/lidder's design.
Japanese products typically have a one-piece wrap-around carton design, differing from the two-piece carton (case and lid) used in most other markets.
Multiple markets and products, single machine and supplier
"Now, in addition to Pemco and E.C.H. Will being able to supply converting lines from the sheeter to the stacker/accumulator, the Model 163 can handle multiple markets having different case configuration demands," said Jeff Vogel, Vice President Engineering & Production at Pemco. Pemco and E.C.H. Will are sister companies in the KPL Group.
The Model 163 processes cut-size reams ranging from the smallest B5 Japanese sizes to large GTO sizes, at 5 or 10 reams per case.
Highly flexible, yet highly precise
The first two Model 163 case packer/lidders were installed in Minnesota, U.S.A. and Portugal. Both of these sites have demonstrated the Model 163's versatility, ease of configuration, speed, small footprint and traditional KPL dependability.
The model's design boasts a wide range of efficiencies, several of them thanks to Pemco's proven servo technology. In addition to enabling easy adaptation to production needs, the servo design reduces the number of maintenance parts, and the number of service parts to keep on hand. A small footprint, and the ability to install the machine in optimal straight-through (right- or left-hand) or side-infeed configuration, make the Model 163 a prime candidate to update existing case packer lines in any layout.
During operation, flighted timing belts assure precise transport and positioning for carton and lid folding, and spring-loaded hold-down mechanisms simplify blank loading. The case and lid blanks are positively and accurately driven into the folding position, for consistently correct positioning of each ream stack, further assuring high end-product quality.
Changeover times amount to only 15 minutes or less, thanks to a motorized size-adjustment option, programmability, and the absence of change parts. This simplicity also makes the changeovers repeatable, assuring constantly high product quality regardless of the operator's skill.
"With this new case packer/lidder, Pemco offers a flexible, efficient solution for versatile customized packaging," added Mr. Vogel. "This means our customers' machinery investment is secure as they enter new markets now, or in the future."
Visitors to the Japan Tappi 2009 conference (October 7 to 9, 2009 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture) can learn more about this new model at the K.K. Irisu booth, No. 157/158.
