Good Design 2011 award for TRUMPF’s TruPort ceiling-mounted supply unit

(PresseBox) (Ditzingen, ) The TruPort ceiling-mounted supply unit from TRUMPF Medical Systems has won the 'Good Design 2011' award in the category 'Medical'.

Each year, the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies present this award to outstanding and innovative products from the fields of industrial, product and graphic design. The Good Design award is one of the world's most prestigious and longest-standing design awards. The 2011 jury revealed that this year's competition had attracted thousands of entries from 50 different countries.

TRUMPF first unveiled the TruPort at the Medica trade fair in 2010. Since then, the company has installed more than 850 units in hospitals all over the world. The TruPort 5000 and 7000 series of the ceiling-mounted supply units are based on a highly versatile modular system which includes all the mechanical, electrical and medical gas-supplying modules. The TruPort system provides a quick and easy way of configuring OR and ICU workstations even without tools in some cases. This makes it tremendously versatile, which means it can rapidly and easily be adapted to changing requirements, even years after the initial installation.

In developing these ceiling-mounted supply units using top-quality, highly durable materials, TRUMPF's clear focus was on a slim-line configuration and space-saving design. Flush-fitted, sealed surfaces help ensure conformance with hospital hygiene requirements and give the system a sleek and attractive look. TRUMPF Medical Systems developed the TruPort design in collaboration with the Hamburg-based design company Held + Team.

Winning the Good Design award elevates TruPort to the ranks of a whole series of successful TRUMPF products that have won design prizes in the past. The AmbientLine lighting solution has already won three awards: the "Good Design 2008 award", the "red dot design award 2009" from the German "Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen", and the "iF product design award 2009" from "iF Industrie Forum Design Hannover". The modular TruSystem 7500 operating table system picked up the iF product design award in 2009 and in the year it was launched it received the "2007 Innovation Award" of the German country of Thuringa. TRUMPF's iLED surgical lighting system won the Good Design award in 2007 and the iF product design award in 2009, and a further Good Design award went to the TruLight 5000 surgical lighting system in 2010.
