According to the Department of Homeland Security, mobile devices present prolific security risks and points of potentially unauthorized access. During iRounds' evaluation of potential hosting partners, they sought out cloud providers that could fulfill the security, compliance and availability requirements to protect ePHI (electronic protected health information).
"We were impressed with Online Tech's heavy investment in acquiring an independent HIPAA audit," said Kurian Thott, Chief Executive Officer of iRounds. Thott noted that iRounds initially considered using Amazon's cloud hosting solutions. However, Amazon could not provide the independent HIPAA audit report or business associate agreement (BAA) that Online Tech could. "It made us confident that Online Tech met all of the HIPAA requirements," said Thott.
All of Online Tech's data centers are fully owned and privately operated. Online Tech's entire staff is trained in the policies and procedures required to meet HIPAA, PCI and SOX compliance. An independent Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS) found the company to be 100% compliant across all 54 standards of the Administrative (164.308), Physical (164.310), Technical (164.312), and Organizational (164.314) Safeguards detailed in the HIPAA Security Rule. The rule states that covered entities and their business associates must protect the availability, integrity and confidentiality of PHI, and report any violations of PHI misuse to the Office of Civil Rights (OCR).
By using Online Tech's cloud hosting services, iRounds can avoid the burden of purchasing and maintaining HIPAA compliant facilities and servers. They can add servers very quickly and inexpensively as their business grows.
