Martinrea Honsel wins 1st price in the International Aluminium Die Casting Competition
With the overall optimization of the design - dropping of the forged steel support arm and its fitting - through the integration of the support arm in an integral cast part and the switch of the process from permanent mold to high pressure die casting, the total costs of the component have been substantially optimized. In addition, the new design permits a higher input torque in the same build space. The part now weighs a good 20 percent less and is thus contributing to a reduction in the vehicle's CO2 emissions and in turn to better environmental compatibility. Furthermore, the design of the die-cast part versus the original permanent mold casting also produces higher strength in practical operation. Martinrea Honsel was engaged to realize the part in high pressure die casting.
Martinrea Honsel occupied a 1st place with the component in the International Aluminium Die Casting Competition 2012, which is staged by the Association of the Aluminium Recycling Industry and the Organisation of the European Aluminium Recycling Industry and supported by the Federation of German Die Casters (VDD) and the Die Casting Committee of the Federal Association of the German Die-casting Industry (BDG).
