MAN Ferrostaal supports start-ups in Africa
The "Hasso Plattner Ventures" venture capital fund, which was founded in Potsdam in 2005, supports young, innovative and promising IT companies worldwide by providing venture capital; the size of the fund is more than 150 million euros. In addition to IT companies, "Hasso Plattner Ventures" has, since 2008, also been supporting young companies that are dedicated to clean technology. In South Africa, MAN Ferrostaal and "Hasso Plattner Ventures" are jointly providing targeted support to start-ups as part of the "Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa Fund".
"Through our financial support we aim to contribute to the development of a society in which everyone participates, in order thereby to create the possibility of a society that is fit for the future and worth living in. Through our activities in South Africa we are playing a part in shaping the social fabric of the country", says Dr. Klaus Lesker, member of the MAN Ferrostaal Executive Board.
MAN Ferrostaal regards sustainability as relevant from an economic, ecological and social perspective. It is very difficult for start-ups to obtain credit in South Africa. "Against this background, we consider it important to support young companies that pursue innovative business models. Our credo is 'Turning Ideas into Reality' for a good reason. We are enthusiastic about our cooperation with 'Hasso Plattner Ventures' and the many great ideas that are given a forum here. After all, it is young, talented people who will play a part in shaping the future and show us new, creative possibilities", says Dr. Lesker. "We want to give something back to these people from the economic success that our company enjoys. We consider it a great honour to actively support young visionaries and thereby help them on the way to achieving their own success. After all, innovations are processes that require both time and investment."
