FDT Group Member Companies Develop 26 FDT2 DTMs in Just Two Days

FDT Developers Workshop for FDT2 DTMs using FDT2 Common Components demonstrates the ease of developing DTMs

(PresseBox) (Jodoigne, Belgium, ) Attendees at the recently completed FDT2 Developer's Workshop in Seligenstadt, Germany demonstrated how easy it is to develop FDT2 DTMs when they completed twenty six DTMs in less than two days. The hands-on workshop centered around the use of the FDT2 DTM Common Components that provide nearly all of the functionality needed to develop FDT2 compliant products.

Participating companies included CodeWrights, who lead the workshop; Hilscher; ICS; ifak systems; Invensys; Krohne; M&M Software; Omron; Phoenix Contact; Rockwell Automation; Schneider Electric; Sick; Turck; VEGA; Wago; and Weidmüller.

"The workshop results make it clear that the FDT2 Common Components will greatly speed up the time to market for FDT2 DTM and products," states Manfred Brill of Schneider Electric. "Vendors also get a much greater level of compliance with the FDT2 standard and therefore better interoperability due to the extensive testing coverage that has gone into the FDT2 Common Components."

Each of the twenty six participants developed a functioning FDT2 DTM during the course of the workshop. The hands-on nature of the FDT2 Developers Workshop limits the number of participants; therefore, the FDT Group is planning additional workshops in Europe and India within the next few months.

The FDT Group initiated the development of the FDT2 DTM Common Components in 2011 in anticipation of the release of the new FDT2 standard that occurred earlier this year. The project was funded by twenty FDT Group member companies that also provided technical expertise and testing. The FDT2 Common Components are available for license to all interested companies. FDT2 enhancements were driven by users and suppliers alike. For the users, the new specification delivers significantly higher speeds and improved overall performance while providing support for real time monitoring with background and batch tasks. In addition, it provides enhanced security, rich PLC integration. and support of all major factory and process automation networks. For suppliers, FDT2 provides device development in .NET, integration with Microsoft Visual Studio, and client/server architectures.

The FDT Group coordinated a parallel project for the development of a Frame Common Component for companies that wish to develop FDT2 Frame Applications. The FDT2 Frame Common Component includes the necessary functionality to ensure backward compatibility with early versions of the FDT standard. Contact the FDT Group at info@fdtgroup.org.
