CGS Publishing Technologies International and Roland DG help Schofeld Design and Brand Agency, Bremen revolutionize package proofing
Ad agency Schofeld installs the first Roland VersaCAMM 640 inkjet printer for contract package proofing
Schofeld serves many prestigious consumer product brands like Darboven Coffee and American Express. The agency has already streamlined customer communication and approval processes with the groundbreaking ORIS Aproove online collaboration tool and color accurate validation print contract proofs produced with ORIS Press Matcher // Web and a Xerox DocuColor 252.
"We have been successfully using ORIS color management with the Xerox for quite some time. However, our packaging designs, particularly coffee packages, almost always include a large amount of fancy metallic and nonmetallic spot colors and white printed on a wide range of substrates such as aluminum composite film, transparent films etc. With ORIS Color Tuner // Web and the new Roland VersaCAMM printer, we can now produce precise coloraccurate proofs on substrates true to the original material. Designs, with white and metallic vignettes, varying opacities and complex spread and chokes are now correctly interpreted and proofed. We were very impressed with the large color space of the printer, especially with the ORIS spot color management. The addition of white and metallic inks now leaves nothing to be desired.
Up to now, we have sourced out all proofing involving white and or metallic colors on a classic laser ablation system, resulting in high cost for us and our customers. Our proofs are now much closer to the final print and can be produced inhouse at a fraction of the cost. The system also allows us to produce to Fogra standard which was not the case on the laser system. We have only just installed the system, but already our customers are excited about the possibilities. The printer can handle material up to 1600 mm. This will allow us in the future to produce premium pointofsale materials or mockups of a quality which was until now not possible. Thanks to the webbased ORIS color management, we can access the printer workflow from almost anywhere and provide an accurate softproof to the customer online before the job is actually printed."
Trevor Haworth, CEO of CGS Publishing Technologies comments: "We are excited that our close cooperation with Roland now extents to a second printer series providing significant value to package designers and production companies, finally making obsolete the conventional cumbersome technology which has dominated packaging proofing for so long."
